I was about to start a blog post about the benefits of coffee for skin last week, but I chose the wrong time of the day and ended up completely side tracked by my lovely cup of joe. The post therefore ran into a whole different subject about how much I love coffee.
There are so many benefits though I had to get back on subject and complete my idea.
So here is my favorite benefits:
Coffee is a powerful antioxidant. More so than many fruits or vegetables. Using a coffee scrub or mask, will give your skin the armor it needs against UV radiation and inflammation. It inhibits a protein enzyme that can cause cancer.
Softening the skin with coffee. This can be achieved by mixing up a mask made from one part honey, two parts cocoa, two parts ground coffee and three parts milk. (oily skin should replace the milk with plain yogurt) Apply this mixture to skin and let it set for about 30 minutes. Wash it off with clean water and a microfiber cloth and have soft, smooth skin and tighter pores.
Exfoliate your skin with coffee. Mix one part olive oil, 2 parts ground coffee and 2 parts brown sugar until it forms a paste. Massage on the skin in a circular pattern, not pressing sown, but letting the grit of the brown sugar and coffee do the work under light pressure from our fingers. Rinse this off with water and apply moisturizer.
Cellulite reduction: Make a body scrub with 1 part aloe vera gel, 1 part vitamin E oil, and 2 parts finely ground coffee. Massage on your skin with a bit more pressure than on your face with the face scrub. The caffeine dehydrates your fatty cells and causes them to diminish and the effect is smoother looking skin.
So there you have it, it’s more than just a wonderful soothing morning companion. The benefits of coffee for skin are numerous.
